I was trying out the macro setting on my camera. I remember you asking about it.

On my conditioning hike along the Laurel Highlands Trail, it was raining acorns. Some of the fallen acorns looked picture perfect so I brought one home (not sure if I violated leave-no-trace here) to show the kids:

^ Very nice. (I've never managed to have a camera ready when I've seen a Pileated Woodpecker, so your photo is good enough for me!) From a few weeks ago: Ketchum Run

I was hiking the southern section of the Laurel Highlands Trail yesterday. I hike that thing so much that I no longer take my camera there, and didn't yesterday, especially because fall foliage hasn't started to do its thing yet. However, on a lark, at my favorite viewpoint I decided to fire off the following shot with my iPhone: Bathed in sunshinePretty poor quality and the dynamic range is atrocious. However, the limited palette and lack of almost any detail in the shadows paradoxically make the sunlit hillside stand out. Not what I was expecting; I actually like the spartan look of the photo quite a bit. Now I need to replicate this with my Canon 5D Mark III!

Hello Y'all. First post to this forum. Formerly from BP forums under a different name. Been hiking Mid Atlantic area for decades. Here's one from a pine grove camp site on Big Stonecoal Trail in the Sods. A favorite place of mine. Taken morning after a night of BIG thunderstorms. I was taking pictures of the spider webs that survived in the meadow, and saw this behind me. Only lasted about 20 minutes, and in my haste forgot to stop down for depth of field. Ah well. Still like it though. I'll link to a bigger size later. Squinting might help.

3pinner,
Welcome. I tried to contact you when this forum started but couldn’t find your email. I know you were on the RP group also. We met once on South Prong when you were heading out to deal with a damaged vehicle. Glad you finally made it over here.

3pinner, Welcome. I tried to contact you when this forum started but couldn’t find your email. I know you were on the RP group also. We met once on South Prong when you were heading out to deal with a damaged vehicle. Glad you finally made it over here. I remember that meeting! and I was out that way last weekend Fri-Sunday first to drown in the rain Friday, then just hang out at horse camp for a couple of days. It was nice to be back. Almost went to Haystack, but promised my wife to just hang out a bit & not walk my legs off for once. I think my email should be listed in my profile. I'll check and make sure its available.
