You're right, it looked quite a bit like smoke in the photo. I had to edit my post to add a caption, to make things clear.  Here's my favorite photo of 2016:  "Fire and ice"This ice pool was located a few hundred yards from our campsite, overlooking the Biafo Glacier. The 42mi long glacier, which we had walked atop for the past week, is located in the Karakoram Range, in northern Pakistan. Our campsite was at an elevation of 16,000ft. The day before, I had identified the pool as a nice shooting location. On this cold morning, just before dawn, I scrambled my way down to the pool, to find a light glaze of ice atop it. Initially, due to overcast conditions, dawn was a no-show. And then, as the sun rose higher, a beam of light found a hole in the clouds and began to play on the craggy slopes of the magnificent 21,040ft tall Sosbun Brakk. The show was over inside a few minutes, which made it all the more special. |

That is cool. How did that happen? The only thing I can figure out is that water falling over an adjacent small waterfall (4 feet) must splash and form the ice as seen. |
