The WV Division of Forestry has released its first fall foliage report of the year. You can find it here. Among the notes were the following: Also noted: I was supposed to be out this coming Monday but it looks like I won't make it out until Columbus Day. May have to head further south to find good color by then.

I drove back from Upper Tract on Wednesday. About the only thing changing up there were the Maples and Poplars. The Oaks were still green.
I probably won't get back down again for two weeks and they'll probably all be past prime by then.

arf,
Thanks for that update. I likely won't be out until Columbus Day. Hoping the change is slow. If anyone else has updates please report them here.

I live at the foot of Cheat Mountain near Beverly, I can see Cheat from my house. Leaves are changing, but are not at peak from what I see down here. Give them a week, and I'd say they'll be a full peak.
Leaves around Elkins are pretty much near or at peak right now.

We were up in Roaring Plains this weekend. I would say it was pretty much peak at the highest elevations and still pretty green down in the valleys. The blueberry bushes up there were blazing red. Very cool.

Quick update. For those of you around Cooper's Rock State Forest in WV or Quebec Run Wild Area in PA this weekend should be peak. Colors are very nice with the yellows and oranges especially pretty. There has been some leaf fall but not a lot. It has been enough though to put a nice coating of leaves on the ground. Individual specimens are outstanding this year. I would say this is one of the better years in some time. Get out and enjoy the colors, they'll be gone soon.
