Would one still use Davis as a reference point? Riverton is the closest town but 1) it's on the east side of the Mt and 2) it's several thousand feet lower in elevation. Going there this weekend (I hope.).

Hard to say. I'd use Riverton, Elkins or Cabins. None of them are going to be all that accurate as this time of year is popup thunderstorm season. Just the difference of being up on Spruce Knob or being down on Seneca Creek can be pretty dramatic too.
Elkins weather will give you a better idea of what's heading your way though.

See if you can get weather for whitmer. Then again, it's probably reported from Harman, which should be pretty accurate for that area...

I think your original idea of using Davis will give you the best weather forecast that you'll be able to get for that area.
Edit: One other thing that I've done is use the NWS site and there is a small map on the right hand side of the page that you can click and it will give you a pinpoint forecast for that spot. Not sure how accurate it is but I've used it before with decent results.

Mike, Here's a link to a list of the WV Zone Forecasts by county. Pick the county you want and read the forecast. Randolph is the correct county but you could check the surrounding ones also. Also remember that on average the temperature drops 3.5°F per 1000 feet of elevation. As arf said, we are now into a rainy pattern that appears to be sticking around until at least this weekend but it's not a washout. We're getting sporadic storms that come and go within about a half hour. Enjoy your time, the streams should be nice with the extra rain.

Sorry, the previous link is only for alerts. I haven't found a corresponding one for forecasts but what I do have is this map which shows the forecast zones for each county (or parts thereof). Do a web search with WVZ in front of the county number and you'll get the forecast.

I'm still over here on the Eastern side of the SK/SC NRA. Looks like this very scattered, popup rain is going to keep up the rest of the week. Every time I go outside to start something, a cloud will come over the mountain and it will rain for 20 minutes. Then the sun will come out and drive the humidity up until the next shower comes along. Rinse and repeat. Bring a rain jacket, but be prepared to put it on and remove it quite a bit. Also a hat and bug dope. It seems to be gnat season right now. It's a different bug every month.
