Not sure if anyone knows but I just read about FS80 in Canaan Valley being repaired. This is an access road to the western side of Dolly Sods near Timberline Ski area. Info can be found here.

I'll be up there tomorrow so I'll see how good of a job they did.

Where is the beginning of this road? Have always heard about it, but never approached the Sods from the west.

Come in off of Freeland Rd in Canaan Valley by the church. It's the same road that goes to Whitegrass except you keep going past Whitegrass.

I was up FS80 this past Friday. The road is in great shape and any vehicle could drive up it to the parking area. You can see where a major washout was repaired. They did a good job. BTW, for those getting a permit for overnight parking please be aware that you can't overnight park at the upper parking area. Overnight parking is a bit farther down the road and will add even more mileage to your hike.

The first time I tried to go up FS80 was about 8 years ago. I made it 1/4 mile and took the first opportunity to turn my Dodge Neon around. The ruts would have swallowed that little car. Did go up it to the top parking area for a day hike in 2012. I had heard that the road had a bad washout. Glad it has been repaired.
Anyone know the condition of A-frame road? I want to head out to some of those trails this year too.

I was on A Frame road as recently as July of last year. It was in fine shape and any car could travel it. I've done most of the trails back in that area.
