I having been driving west on Harpers Ferry Road to get to the more western parts of the C & O Towpath, across the river in MD. I have noticed that the trees there are marked with blue blazes. This is of course paved. Is that marking a hiking trail in the area? One thought I had: This is a bike trail. Anyone here have any idea what trail this is?

Perhaps the Tuscarora Trail?

In MD, blue blazes signify private property (no hunting). with the Fall hunting seasons fast approaching, property owners will be freshening up their property lines. The no trespassing blue blazes are usually larger than your normal trail blazes.
These may be the blue blazes you are seeing.

Often lands in MD are marked with blue boundary blazes to show that the land is posted no trespassing. If the OP is talking about the Harpers Ferry Rd that is kind of between Weverton and Shepherdstown, that's way too far east to be the Tuscarora.
