Is there a trail along Massanutten Mountain opposite Veach Gap as shown in blue on the below map?

Are you talking about the dotted line west of Little Crease Mt? If there is one i think it's on private property.

If you are talking about the blue line that extends southwest from a sharp bend in the Massanutten Trail (near the upper right corner of the map in your post), I don't think there is a trail there. I didn't see any evidence of one when I hiked that section a year or so ago. I don't think it would be a terribly difficult bushwhack (if that is your thing) this time of year, though. You would just have to keep to the top of the ridge and you could connect the trails.

I wasn't sure if there was a trail there; the PATC maps and guides say no, the USGS old topos say yes, and I recently found a GPS trace following that route, and it looked nicer than I'd expect a bushwhacking route would be. But it would eliminate a long road walk.

I wonder if it could be an old extension of the Meneka Peak trail, or just a similar kind of connecting trail that eventually was under-utilized and forgotten about.
