Looking for any suggestions for a week long hike in Wv. Looking at the allegheny trail section 2. But would like to have a couple of options. Well, you've got a good trip there. I guess you've got a shuttle or something set up. It's a little tough, but you can probably work a week in the Cranberry if you hit both the interior and outlying trails. You can make a week in other parts of the Mon, I mean you can do Canaan, Dolly Sods, head to Otter Creek, hike out Shavers and pick up the ALT, hit the High Falls, cross over Beulah to Laurel Fork and over to Spruce Knob/Seneca Creek. It's more than possible if you're just walking and don't have to worry about vehicles and don't mind a little road walking. You can do that in other directions too. Canaan, Dolly Sods, drop out Jordan run, Pick up North Fork Mountain.

You can connect Otter Creek and Canaan Mt. with a very short road walk if you use the old, abandoned Bennett Rock Tr. I did it many years ago and the axe blazes were still visible and a sign remained on Mountainside Tr. also. Even if you can't find the actual trail a open woods bushwhack will suffice. Just be aware that it may be the steepest trail (or former trail) on the Mon but it is mercifully short. From Canaan Mt you can drop to either Blackwater or Canaan Valley State Parks via the ALT. There are options, it just depends on how much looping you want to do or if you want a straight hike.

I got transportation covered. Last hike I got to do was two years ago before my second daughter was born. Hiked up red creek to the lions head. Hiked a few other trails that week but can't remember the names. Lost all my maps and info so I'm starting over. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you.

I explored part of it a few years ago. It was full of blow downs then, so I turned around.

I've never taken the whole thing but I've been on the lower part of it while fishing Red run. It's gated so you don't have to worry about vehicular traffic. It also appears to be a much easier grade to hike than Bennett Rock.

FR244 is certainly another possibility and I know that mountain bikers use it. I've been meaning to check it out but never have. The old Bennett Rock Tr was abandoned many years ago. I hiked it back in 1992 and it was marginal then with just axe blazes. I'm not sure what condition the area is in now but I look up there every time I drive by. The FS road is certainly in better shape, albeit it's a bit more of a walk on the hardtop but still not bad and the scenery along it is probably better.

That FS road would certainly be the best route, over those steep mountainsides
