A couple of weeks ago, we stayed in PATC's Lambert Cabin on the west side of Shenandoah National Park with the group we volunteer with. On Sunday, after a late night, four of us decided to get the blood flowing by hiking up Crusher Ridge Trail to Skyline Drive. The cabin is nearly on the park boundary, so getting to the trailhead just involved a short walk up the road. From there, it was a quiet, winding climb up the ridge following old road beds. There were still a few leaves on the trees and it was a perfect fall day. On Skyline Drive, we walked a few hundred feet down to the Stony man overlook for our only clear view of the day. Aside from at the overlook, the only person we saw was the PATC trail maintainer. A few remaining leaves on the Crusher Ridge Trail. Milkweed seeds on Skyline Drive

How was the Lambert Cabin? Does it have a bathroom? It doesn't matter to me so much as the wife - she keeps asking me. I'm not banking on it, but I know some of the modern PATC cabins have bathrooms.
If not, I'll tell her to wash her hair in the sink.

Lambert Cabin has a bathroom and running water. I don't remember if it has a shower, but there is at least a bathtub. Oddly, it also has an outhouse out back.
One other thing about the cabin: If you are over about 5'9" you will spend the entire time stooping to avoid hitting your head on the ceiling beams. And you'll forget several times and smack your head into them. When our group was there, about every 15 minutes you'd hear a thud and then, "d***it!"

Thank you for the information! I had already heard about the low ceilings, and I'm OK with that, I'll just crouch. My wife is under 5 feet tall so she'll be absolutely fine. She will be overjoyed there is a bathtub. She doesn't mind rustic as long as she can clean herself.
