Yesterday, I went to Ohiopyle State Park in western Pennsylvania, hoping for at least a half-foot of snow on the ground and snow-flocked trees. What I got was barely a trace, although the Laurel Highlands Trail was somewhat snowy. Either there hadn't been that much snow there on Saturday, or it had all melted - the temperature was hovering 1-3 degrees above freezing - or both. A wintry mix of snow/rain fell on me throughout, so I had to take all of these photos from under an umbrella. I began with a short 3.5mi hike on the Laurel Highlands Trail up to a vista overlooking the Youghiogheny River. I was greeted with a stiff wind and swirling snow. Some motion blur on the branches. Unfortunately, I had to take a long exposure, which caused it, because I needed to get 'rid' of the snowflakes that were falling pretty heavily.I next headed to Cucumber Falls. Here I was thankful for the rain/snow, because the place can be super busy. Cucumber FallsAfter trying to get to the trailhead for Jonathan Run Falls, and finding a snowy road that I decided not to risk driving atop, I returned to Ohiopyle and did a quick stop at the overlook for Ohiopyle Falls: Ohiopyle FallsI finished with a trip to the Meadow Run Natural Waterslides. I had initially wanted to hike to the cascades further upstream, but the constant precipitation had finally sapped my will, so I decided to just drive back home and watch football.
