Well, it's winter, arfcomhkr is visiting the archives again! We'll have to make another trip up the river, and see what all work they done up there a few years back. Spruce wouldn't be bad, but as you say you pretty much have to do that loop, with bald knob, unless you want to walk 6mi in and out on the RR tracks.

Eh, I just posted it in case there were people looking for something a little different to do. Besides, I was moving pics to Imjur and figured why not. I really like that whole Upper Shavers area. Wish the FS would build a few trails in the area though.

Well, next time we get over there, I have a new way into Snyder Knob, and it's not that rough assed road either! We'll make our own trails!

We did this last year in MAB and we took the Cass railroad to Bald Knob, got out, and hiked down to Spruce. We just let the train leave us behind...(worked out a deal with the railway.)

We did this last year in MAB and we took the Cass railroad to Bald Knob, got out, and hiked down to Spruce. We just let the train leave us behind...(worked out a deal with the railway.) They used to haul a caboose up to both Bald Knob and Spruce and leave them there for the season. You could rent them for the day/night. I spent a night in one up on Bald Knob with my grandson a few years back. You can also rent the cabin by the fire tower. I would pass on the cabin up there though. Not a great spot.
