Anyone know how far it is from the FS road access south to the overlook that is up behind Seneca Rocks? I might try to twist arfcomhkrs arm away from fishing for a day here soon, and take a day hike out that way. We have hiked everything from the FS road to the north, the popular end, but never done any of the southern end.....

The best view in my opinion south of the FS road that goes to the radio tower is 2.85 miles south just south of Big Knob. You can see the entire way from north of Canyon’s Rim past Haystack, Green Knob, down over Spruce Mountain and down towards the East Fork of Greenbrier. You can also see the southern lay of North Fork Mountain including Pike Knob and over into the South Branch Valley into Virginia including Hardscrabble Knob at Ramsey’s Draft. This is one of the most expansive views on the Mon. There is a nice overlook before you get here but not as expansive. The first overlook area is easy to see as it's right along the trail. The second one is off trail about 50-100 yards but I believe there was a small cairn marking the way. I had a map on my phone GPS (Gaia) that showed where it was. After leaving the FS road you'll follow an old road for a ways along the ridge and then the trail breaks off of it and drops down a little ways and then sidehills for a piece. You'll have a little climb back up over the ridge and then undulate for a bit. You'll come to the first view point and then maybe 10 minutes later the second one. It looks like the trail does a rather steep but short downhill after the second viewpoint but we turned around there. The view is absolutely worth it if the weather cooperates. Watch out for "reptiles".

BTW, the road up to the radio tower is pretty rough the last tenth of a mile or so. No problem in my truck but a small car might have issues.

I'm familiar with that road. We both have trucks, so no issue there.
If you have co-ordinates for that overlook it would be appreciated. I've never studied that part of the trail and to be honest haven't looked at it on a map.
Oh, and yeah, I don't like the "reptiles" either...

Try around 17S 0644020E 4297015N. If you're old school then try 38°48'37", -79°20'29". That should be close.

jnk,
Did you guys do the North Fork Mt. hike? How was it? I was out yesterday and saw the point where the views are from Rt. 28 near Circleville.
