Saturday February 18, 2017 DWGNRA (Mount Tammany) NJ Spent a beautiful Saturday morning/afternoon hiking in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Did a 11 mile loop to Sunfish Pond and Mount Tammany using the following trails: Appalachian trail, Dunnfield Creek trail (To Sunfish Pond), Appalachian trail (around west side of Sunfish Pond): Turquoise trail, Mount Tammany Fire Road and the Red Dot Trail Temperature at start of the hike was 28 degrees. Made it up to 59 degress as I finished at 1:30 pm. Most of the trails were either icy or snow covered. I used Micro Spikes for 80 percent of the hike. Seen many people heading up the steep and very icy climb to the top of Mount Tammany as I was heading down. Footwear on these folks varied from hiking boots, trail runners, to sneakers. And one brave soul wearing open toed sandals. I can only imagine some of the fun they had getting back down. Had one person comment about my micro spikes on the way down, that it was probably a smart ideal as icy as it was. A few pictures.
