Hi all - I wanted to gather suggestions for a hike that has large portions in wide open fields/meadows/etc.
Some examples of what i'm talking about: Dolly Sods north, Woodstock equestrian park, Sky Meadows state park
Ideally within 4 hours of Baltimore..
thanks for any help!

John P Saylor Trail has a lot of open areas, but they are marshes.

Not sure if you mean dayhike or backpack. Appalachian Trail in southern Cumberland Valley, just south of Boiling Springs PA, passes through open fields for about a continuous half mile (split by a road, Leidigh Drive). Subject to the Cumberland Valley no-camping rule. Although this is pushing your 4-hour limit from Baltimore, Mid State Trail section 17 south of PA Route 287, in Tioga County south of Wellsboro, skirts a large former strip mine - but a gated truck trail passes directly through the mine. You can make a 7 mile loop hike about 2.5 miles of which is on open sky mine roads. (or 4 mile version with 1.5 miles on the truck roads) And, about half of that is on PA State Forest land for legal backpack camping (fires are not advised, you don't want the notoriety of lighting the remaining coal seam or spoil). www.hike-mst.org/index.php/the-trail/section-updates/153-section-17

About 3.5 hrs from Baltimore is Lehigh Gap in PA. App Trail follows the ridgeline, and on the north facing flanks of the mountain for 2 or 3 miles it is primarily open grass land and shrubby forest. It was formerly a wasteland where all the vegetation had been killed off by a zinc smelter in the valley. Since the smelter closed it has been reclaimed.

Quehanna Wild Area has many vast fern meadows and open areas. Beautiful isolated place.

The Hammersley wild area is also gorgeous. The meadows offer superb views, not to mention great creek side hiking and campsites on this loop. Be sure to also explore the south meadow and the top of the north meadow. The off trail ridge walk from the north meadow down to Hammersley fork is a must, several views of the canyon. At the bottom, cross the creek and the Susquehannock trail is on the other side. One of my favorite places. endlessmountains.wordpress.com/2016/02/12/finding-peace-in-the-hammersley/
