Don't know any info other than what was in todays local paper. Said it was found in "remote" part of wilderness. Then again to authorities, remote could be anywhere. article from here: linkMOOREFIELD — The West Virginia State Police is seeking assistance from the public in gathering information regarding a body that was found in a “remote area” of Dolly Sods Wilderness Area over the weekend. The “deceased human body” of Ivan Dickason Perlis was located in the Grant County portion of Dolly Sods on Saturday by the Moorefield/Petersburg detachment of the WVSP, according to a WVSP press release. Perlis’ body was sent to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed and the individual was able to be identified. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Trooper First Class N.E. Higginbotham at 304-538-2925. Information or tips may also be provided via the internet at www.wvcrime.com.

Interesting and creepy. The article said the body was found in the Grant Co. part of DS. I checked and only a very little bit of DS is in Grant Co. Just a little bit down near the Laneville Cabin and a slightly bigger spot just to the west of FS75 along the long straight stretch and immediately north of the Red Creek Campground. I suspect it was someone from the campground. Oh, and not remote to us who go there though just a few feet back in the laurels and you're gone forever.

I reckon unless we hear more, we'll never know. So many of these cases you never hear more about. Honestly I think alot are accidents, falls, heart attacks or maybe some drug OD's. I guess a person could search obits for the victim. Not sure where he was from didn't say... Just the way things go up here i guess. Edit: the guy was from Dryfork, over on randolph-tucker line. I did dig up a speeding ticket from 2014 for him

Are the gates closed yet? Cant remember the date they lock'em up. I doubt it, deer season starts next week. If they closed them now they'd be ripped out for sure Normally not till after first of year or snow gets too deep up there.

OK, thanks. I was thinking of the date I've read in the past. Thinking last day of November or first of December?

Gates won't close until January unless snow is too deep. Drove all the way out to the pipeline on FS 70 on January 2nd earlier this year.

Ok, I've posted this several times before but it always comes back up so here goes again: the National Forests all have Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) that are the official statement on road closures and openings. The ones for the Mon National Forest can be found here. Unfortunately, they don't have all the districts listed - this is typical for the USFS websites - pathetic, they need better web people. Anywho, here's the link for the Potomac Ranger District MVUM. FS75 is listed as open April 1st through Dec 31st. So, come Jan 1, it should be closed. I'm sure that the rangers may run a day or two late on occasion but I wouldn't plan a trip based on that bet. As for FS19, it is open Feb 15 until Dec 31st. If I recall correctly there was a thread on these boards a year or two back about FS19. It used to be open all year but the policy was changed after people got stuck in the snow up around where FS75 starts. I believe the gate is just past Laneville Cabin.

Those maps also like you said are just a guide I know of a few roads that are never closed that are listed as closed in winter or summer.

That maybe so, but the forest service has decreed them as their official statement. Take that for what it's worth.
