Here is a good set from WV Highlands Conservancy site: www.wvhighlands.org/north-fork-mountain-24k-hiking-maps/ However, topo maps aren't really needed for the trail, there simply isn't that much elevation change on the trail, it just follows the crest of the mountain the whole way. There are a few small climbs, but nothing drastic.

Thank you for all the replies. I was up there Saturday all the way to redman trail and back, one of the best views I've ever seen, I need more of it.

Did you notice if there was water at the spring?

As for the spring, it's been a dry summer over that way. I personally haven't gone up to check it lately. I'll do so when I get back next month for trout fishing, probably after the 10th and post the condition.

Yeah, I know. Roaring Plains was very dry. The little pond below the spring was full back in April, but it could be empty now. I just hate taking the time-and the beating- to make that water drop!

I could bring you up some water if you're camping by the spring (if I'm there at the same time). Chances are I'll be there all of Oct. after around the 10th or so unless something unexpected happens between now and then. That goes for anyone here hiking it.

That would be greatly appreciated! I usually get to the spring mid-morning on the 2nd day, though. Prefer to stop earlier to camp near the overlooks.

I went up and checked the spring today. Looks OK, only one frog in it. The pond is pretty green though.

Have we ever had someone to post GPS coordinates of the spring? I was by there on Monday and drove clear to the top by the radio tower. I did a quick look on the way out but didn't see it. Is it on the east or west side of the ridge?

Is it on the east or west side of the ridge? I'll check my GPS and see if I marked it. It's right behind the campsite with the parking spot and the fire ring.

That's it, back side of ridge from the camping spot at the top switchback.

There's close to a dozen 1 gallon jugs sitting at the blue blaze for the North part of the trail right at the road. Didn't know if I should have dumped them and hauled them down the mountain for the trash or leave them there. Various amounts of water in them.
Most people that drop water there at least tag them with a name and use new, sealed jugs, but you never know and I'd hate to trash someones stash. So, I left them. Other than that, the campsite is pretty clean.
They haven't stocked Smoke Hole yet, so I'm puttering around the cabin for now.
