Went to Gallatzin State Park and did the John P Saylor Trail as an over-nighter. We did both the large and small loops, and the Bog Trail. Very well-marked trail on mostly old railroad grades and woods roads. Very diverse hiking! Started in hardwood forest Then hit the graffiti covered Wolf Rocks Then Hemlocks with colorful mushrooms And bogs. It seemed the trails are looped around these amazing bogs One serene creek Camped at an old lumber camp Hiking through ferns Across the "closed " bridge Beaver dam created pond Then the big bog Then back on the woods road and back to our cars. The last bit of trail does parallel the road, so the noise can ruin your zen. Because of that and the graffiti, this one gets a 4 out of 5 stars.

I would put it right up there with the Karakorams, lol! Ha! I was toying with hiking this trail this coming weekend, but had already decided to just do a conditioning hike closer to home. This all happened before I saw your report, so you are not to blame! I'm going to get around to doing this one someday, but for now I have at least three others I want to do first, during the fall foliage extravaganza.

You could do it in a day, not much elevation gain. I am thinking about doing the Conestoga trail, especially after reading your report. Not sure about doing the whole thing, maybe Kelly's Run up to Tucquan.
