I recently went on a beautiful loop hike through the Loyalsock State Forest, following both trails, and going off trail. We saw numerous waterfalls, pools, moss covered ledges and boulders, and old growth hemlocks. The trees faded into the cool mist, creating a spooky setting. The waterfalls were gorgeous, flowing well after recent rains. We decided to do a frigid ford of Hoagland Branch to complete the loop. We had to fight the strong current to cross, but the water barely reached over my knee. My feet soon re-warmed after some vigorous hiking. We walked along Hoagland Branch, a stream well-known for its beauty, in the deepening twilight as side stream waterfalls tumbled down.
