We are considering a trip to North Fork Mountain this weekend. It is a long shot, but has anyone been up there recently and seen the spring that is mentioned on Hiking Upward's description of it? I am curious if it is flowing this time of year. Thanks!

No, my place is over on Cave mountain not far from Smoke Hole road. I've been meaning to drive up and look for it. I know where it's supposed to be as we walked right past the spot last year but didn't stop due to the large group of people camping there.
It's pretty dry up there right now. Worst case, drive up and do a water drop. I'd do it for you but I won't be back there for another week or 10 days.
BTW, if you're hiking the whole thing you might have a hard time finding a place to drop a vehicle on 33.

Pretty much all of the mountains here in WV, are dryer than a popcorn fart right now, so I very seriously doubt the driest place around to begin with even if there is a spring, that it would have water in it. The woods are a giant tinder box right now, and with leaves falling soon, unless we get rain it's gonna be bad.

That is what I suspected, but I figured I would ask anyway. Hopefully, you all get some rain out of the front that is coming through Friday night.

We're supposed to, thing is it's gonna get cold behind it though. I have heard the "S" word being mentioned for Sunday higher up in the mountains.

Well, I wouldn't chance it if you're hiking the whole thing from 33 to the Northern end. Aside from that iffy spring, the chances of finding water up there are slim to none, unless you get caught in a frog strangler while hiking. Having to drive up there to do a water drop or check the spring adds a good bit of time to your shuttle since you have to drive 1/2 way down (or up) Smoke Hole road. You can't make any time on it as it's crooked as a snake and barely 1 1/2 lanes wide in most places.

Yeah, we are going to go somewhere else this weekend since we don't feel like hauling enough water for two days. Thanks for all of the advice, guys.
