Last year, we did NFM and FR79 was open all the way up. Anyone know if it is now? Thanks!

I haven't been up it yet this year, been busy trout fishing. They're done with the pipeline work so I assume it's open. I went up in late July last year after the work and it was all seeded in wild flowers.

Thanks. I remember the part we walked when doing the NFM trail was good enough I could take the fuel efficient car up, instead of having to take the jeep. Am I remembering correctly?

It was good enough last year to get past the campsite where the spring is and up to the last crossing of the pipeline. The last little section from there to the radio tower was still jeep/truck only.

I just drove up to the campsite by the spring. The road is freshly paved up to the boundary. The FS road itself is in pretty good shape as I type this. One good gully washer could change that though.
That side of the mountain where the fire was a few years ago is covered in what look like wild white azalea blooms.

arf,
Thanks for the update. The azalea sound nice. Not much activity on the board but then again a lot of people may not be out and about. I hope to be somewhere on the Mon before the end of June. We were on McGowan Mt at Otter Creek a few weeks back and saw absolutely no one out.

Sorry, it was laurel. I must have had a brain fart when I first posted that.
Anyway, that's the first time I've driven up there and happened to hit it in bloom. I usually only drive up there once a year unless someone is visiting and I take them up for the views.
