It's back up for me, and it looks like all the pages are active. It’s up for me as well. I noticed it went down briefly after it went back up initially. But it seems to up and running again.

How much did that cost you if you don't mind my asking. $17.17 with tax. It was cheap enough that I took the risk. The website is an invaluable resource for me so I thought I would at least try. I also messaged him on his Facebook account about it. I’ll update on here if he replies. Thanks.I'd be happy to pay for another year or two if I could figure out how to access it

I’m hoping Mike will message me back on Facebook but if anything I’m also glad to keep paying for the renewal as well.

I don’t think you’re going to get any response from Mike. He seems to have completely forgotten about this.

I just heard from Mike's wife that he passed away this past November. Not sure what the status will be for MidAtalanticHikes.com or this forum, but I thought all of you should know of Mike's passing.

Sad news indeed! From a previous post, it looks like the domain is paid for through April of this year. It would be nice to find out how we could keep this site alive - I have no idea.. HOw could one make a payment? Is there a way to transfer the domain to someone? I know nothing about this stuff.

Yes, this is sad news. Not completely unexpected since Mike had basically not been on the site in years. I'm not sure who paid for the site last time but I'm sure we can keep the forums going. Mike's site with the hikes might die though. Again, it hadn't been updated in many years. You should still be able to access it through the Wayback Machine at archive.org if that happens.

My guess is that his website will disappear at the end of April. Mike would have had to transfer the domain and hosting to someone in order for it to continue beyond April. If you are interested, I helped Mike publish his hiking books for West Virginia and Central Maryland. I do not have any copies of his West Virginia book, but I do have copies of his Central Maryland hiking book. All of the hikes listed in the book are from his website, so you could get "hard copies" of those hikes, if you are interested. You can find the book here: pahikes.com/products/the-mid-atlantic-hikers-guide-central-marylandI am selling these at my cost. My website, www.pahikes.com, will be shutting down as well, probably around the end of March.

A lot of really great information on hiking the mid Atlantic and especially PA going away in a short period of time. It will be missed as the Instagram/reddit crowd takes over one of the last truly remote places in the East.

I'm not sure that the Instagram crowd is willing to hit all the remote places - they want easy places for easy upvotes. Reddit is a mess - just a modern incarnation of the Usenet groups of the 90's. Unless you chance on a very specific subreddit it's a crap shoot.

I think the front page site may already be gone. Is that so for anyone else? As for this one, it looks like hosting is already free through the board software so unless there's a domain fee it should keep going.

Sadly Mr. Juskelis has passed away- I am acquainted with his son, who hopes to keep the dreams alive. One can only hope to keep the main site, and this forum running! I believe some kind of book release in his memorial will be coming soon!

I’m actually so sad to hear he passed away. I’ve used the site plenty times the last three years.
Side note: if you actually go to hover.com and input midatlantichikes.com on the domain search, it actually gives you the option to make an offer to buy the domain.
Only issue is 1. The starting minimum offer is $199. 2. From what I’m reading it requires to you communicate with the domain owner. Which, yeah. That’s not possible, unfortunately.
If I had to guess, come April, it’ll probably show up as expired again and anybody here would be able to pay for it like I did.
Edit: looks the site is indeed down again (kinda early too). And you can pay for its renewal like before.
