Ramsey's Draft has to be less than 1 hour 30 min from the cabin. Google Map says 1 hour and 11 min. That's a much better gike than the Dogway trip you're thinking about, IMHO, and a lot closer.

With the creek and all, I'd say a fall trip would be a good time up in there. Thing is, 15 crossings, you really want to have to swap boots that many times?? Hell, we'll just hike in hip waders!

I don't recall taking my boots off at all and that was a spring hike.

BTW, I went back and read my own trail notes. It's more like 20 Draft and stream crossings. Once you get above Jerry's Run most are narrow, pure rock hops. There are photos linked to the the link in my initial post here. I seem to recall that the No-See-Ums were worst in July/August.
You can knock a handful of minutes off of the drive by parking at the Confederate Breastworks on top of Shenandoah Mountain but that will add a couple of miles to the hike.
Google Maps uses the posted speed limits to calculate time. Honestly, (and I've done this before) driving a pickup at 55 MPH up and over that mountain on U.S. 250 is a real "white knuckle" affair so your time estimate is probably closer.

Jerry's run is a great lunch spot to stop and wring out some socks.
I would link to my TR from last spring, but alas...backpacker lost it.
