Fillmore Glen State Park – Moravia NY
After finishing up my earlier hike at Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca NY. I drove the 23 miles northeast over to Fillmore Glen State Park located in Moravia New York. Fillmore Glen has numerous waterfalls on the glen created by Dry Creek which flows through the park
I entered the park at the Lower Park Area off of NY route 38 in Moravia NY. And this time had to pay my seven dollar entrance fee. Which is good for any other NYS parks the same day.
At this park I did a 3 mile loop using the Gorge trail and the North Rim trail for my return. From the parking area I crossed the creek on a small footbridge next to vehicle Forde of the same creek. One has to walk upstream from here to the trailheads.
A short side trail takes one to the base of the first falls. (Cow Sheds Falls). Very impressive way to start out the hike up the gorge. I backtracked a bit and crossed back over the creek to the start of the gorge trail on the south side of the creek.
The gorge trail immediately climbs up a long set of steps before turning back into the gorge near the top of Cow Shed Falls. From there it follows the path of the creek with numerous bridge crossing. Before finally switch backing up the north side of the ravine to the North Rim trail
The North Rim trail travels atop the deep glen through a beautiful Hemlock forest. Before descending back to the start of the gorge trail
Once again it was a light mist. As the harder rains stopped on my drive over from Buttermilk Falls. Which kept the crowds down. Did see two guys taking photos in the glen with digital SLR camera setups with tripods. Not like my little point and shoot Nikon Coolpix.
