I think we are in for a massive fight now that the republicans are in charge. They want to give our public lands away to developers and energy companies. They want to gut the EPA. This "Make America Great Again" will do the exact opposite. Please tell me I am wrong.

Sorry, I cannot lie to you.
And federal lands is one of our least concerns. Having a wage-thief, sexual assaulter, pathological liar (tho that assumes that Trump has beliefs of any kind at all) climate-change denialist, conspiracy theorist, openly racist, KKK-endorsed, probable anti-semite, misogynist (tho perhaps not as horrible as his running mate in that regard), trade war starter, debt-exploding (and we fear at other explodings he may do) as president will be fearful and horror for too many people in the country and world.

I figured since this is a hiking forum, I would contain my rant to what most affects this community. We seriously need a coalition of backpackers, hikers, hunters, bikers, even ATV'ers to get together to put the brakes on this. We don't want to go back to Robin Hood days, where you get thrown in jail for walking or hunting in the King's Woods. Well, now it will be the Koch Brothers Woods. Or Exxon Woods.

Just seems you get together a group of friends (heavily armed of course) and take over which ever park you'd like. Cliven Bundy style. Seemed to work out for them okay. As the Jury in Oregon acquitted them
Of course you got to be the first group in.

Ok, on the specific issue.
I suspect that NPS lands should be fine, though doubts have to be there also. They're too popular, both actually and in the abstract to screw up too much.
FS lands won't be as well off. I don't think they'll be clear cut and then fully quarried, but I suspect they will get more exploited, but not sold (why make corporations have to pay for the land and then keep it as a sink on the value?).
BLM lands, well, I don't want to think about that. Nothing good is going to happen there.

Sarah "Drill baby Drill" Palin as Secretary of the Interior? Could it be any worse? My biggest fear is that now that Trump has fooled all the rust belt white people into voting for him to drain the swamp, everything will go back to republican "business first, fuck the people" politics. I bet most of the guys that voted for Trump are hunters. Maybe when they aren't allowed access to their public hunting spots or when all the wildlife is dead or toxic from oil and coal production or chased off by clear-cutting, they will get a clue. And don't think the National Parks will be spared, the uranium mines will be going into the Grand Canyon in no time.

I'm sure the sky is not gonna fall. The sun is gonna rise tomorrow, and it will be greater than today.

As jnk said, the sun will rise tomorrow and the world will go on. I can't directly speak for Mike but since he doesn't seem to show up here any more I will say that I don't think he wanted these types of discussions on this board. Many boards ban discussions of politics, religion, etc. because they quickly degrade into flame wars, name calling, etc. We don't need that here. Please take this discussion over to the Backpacker forums where they love to flame and have at it. Let's keep this board focused on hiking in the Mid Atlantic.
