I'm starting this thread as a fall foliage report for the Mid Atlantic area and folks can add onto it with comments and observations from their areas.
Okay, here goes with my initial report:
Big Schloss & Tibbet's Knob area - I was over there on Oct 3rd and there was hardly any color change at all - just a few maroons here and there. North Fork Mountain - we did a hike yesterday from the radio tower south a few miles - again, almost no color but just a tad more with some yellows showing and a few reds. BTW - I had a great view of the whole southern half of NFM over to south of Spruce Knob near the East Fork up over Spruce Mt., Green Knob, Haystack and Roaring Plains and it was about the same everywhere. The best color if you could call it that was on the Fore Knobs. Cooper's Rock area - I'm in this area and again, it's just about the same here. Yesterday morning the temp dropped to 37°F on Chestnut Ridge but I haven't seen signs of frost anywhere though I'm sure there's been a little.
I feel like colors won't be that great this year but I'm asking that folks update this thread to keep everyone in the know.

Aside from the maples, it's still pretty green as of today over by Smoke Hole.

I expect these two upcoming weekends to be primetime for fall colors in southwestern Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands.

I live near Elkins, and I'd say it's maybe 40%, but then again what has changed is very dull and most are just turning brown and dropping leaves. Not a good year here for leaves and colors.

Nice. The South and North Trails are the proposed route for a future AT relocation as part of a larger relocation project through the Lehigh Gap.

Nice. The South and North Trails are the proposed route for a future AT relocation as part of a larger relocation project through the Lehigh Gap. I'm sure the AT thru hikers will love the rocky sections of the south trail (when that change happens). The character of the north trail has changed considerably in the last several years. Not quite as open as it used to be. But it sure was windy (in the remaining open sections) on the Sunday I was up there.

There's still a decent amount of leaves on the trees over here in the Potomac Highlands. But I was up on Spruce Knob today and it was bare looking down towards Seneca Creek. Look like winter (minus the snow).

An update from Chestnut Ridge. Today may have been peak color and a late peak at that. While colors have been subdued this year the cloudy light day brought out some nice colors. Yellows and oranges are pretty nice but reds are scarce. There are still a fair number of trees still with green leaves. Look for colors at a smaller scale. If you go for the macro, big vista picture this year you will most likely be disappointed. Get in the woods or drive through it and some colors will pop out. The west side of the ridge and the ridge itself are both about as nice as they're going to get this year. The east side is another story. East of Cooper's Rock on I68 is at somewhere around 80-85% leaf drop with some places completely barren. The leaves that are left are brown or a very pale yellow. It's this way to the Maryland line. Get out and enjoy it folks, this week is supposed to be nice.

Good color now in Dauphin County, PA.
Was hiking yesterday in Chester County, PA which was past peak. Unusual to see further southeast dropped "ahead" of southcentral PA.

Well, a really late update. I suspect we're all pretty bare at this point but there are a few remaining trees. I was in the Dobbin House area of the Mon NF last Friday and while 99% of Blackwater Canyon was bare we saw a few trees still standing out against the bareness from Pase Point. So, it's now time to enjoy the stark gray and muted colors of late fall as we wind into winter. Enjoy the carpet of burnt out leaves on the forest floor and the green of the laurel and hemlock. Each season brings its own wonder.

Well folks, it's that time of the year again - time to start the fall foliage reports. Here in northern WV we've got just a few leaves turning but the sumacs are going early this year with their reds. It's been a very cool August that has felt more like September. Just bumping this thread back to the top for the foliage reports as they come in.

Did some driving around the Cooper's Rock/Big Sandy area yesterday and while we're still in the single digits percent-wise on color the trees that have turned are brilliant this year. I saw some brilliant reds and oranges along with some duller maroons. Areas in Canaan Valley and around Terra Alta dropped to 33°F two mornings ago with reports of scattered frost. Should start the leaves turning.

Just checked Whitegrass' website and they posted a pic of the first frost the same day. It's turning!

On my hike in the Spruce Knob area (Seneca Creek and the Lost Meadow) last weekend there wasn't a lot of action going on. Only a handful of trees had fully turned, and I estimated that less than 5% had changed partially. The rest were still green.
