Twin and Indian Head Mtn’s. – Catskill’s NY
Early Sunday morning headed north to Tannersville New York,
Did an 11 mile +/- hike over Twin and Indian Head mountains. Two of the Catskill 3500 peaks. Twin logs in at number 23 in order out of the 35 peaks over 3500 feet, with an elevation of 3640 feet. While Indian Head is number 30 at 3573 feet in elevation.
Started off at the Roaring Kill trail head. Used the following trails: Roaring Kill Trail, Devils Path east to it’s Prediger Road trail head. Followed by a 2.4 mile road walk along Prediger Road, Platte Clove Road, Dale Lane and Roaring Kill Road to close out the loop. The four roads are very lightly traveled by vehicle traffic. Only encountered five vehicles during the road walk. All on Platte clove road.
I just love the very step 60 foot vertical cliff one needs to descend on the east side of Indian Head (Devils Path). Plenty of roots and handholds. Looks much worse that it really is.
A few of the highlight where the stone chairs and sculptures of Dibbles Quarry on the Roaring Kill Trail, A Small Stream and Beaver Dam along the Roaring Kill trail, Steep rocky climb up the west side of Twin (Devils Path), Views from atop both Twin and Indian Head. Sweet smell of the Balsams while crossing Twin and portions of Indian Head. Even the road walk was a pleasant stroll. Including the very scenic stream that I crossed while walking along Dale Lane
Some photos form the hike.
