Oh, I'll play. I'll post what I already have online and then look at home for some of the older ones (Olympic, Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, etc.). I'm going to assume we are including National Monuments in this as well (since most of them are administered by the National Park Service). I am lucky to live where I do because there are so many parks here. I'll start local and then go to the parks I've visited out west. The National Mall

I had to look it up, but the trails on the Maryland side of Great Falls are in the C&O Towpath unit of the National Park Service. Nice! I didn't include National Monuments in my original post, but I think it makes sense to include these. Plus, that way I get to add my Painted Hills (Oregon) photo(s), like you've already done!

I didn't include my National Monument photos where the monument is administered by another agency, usually Bureau of Land Management (e.g Grand Staircase-Escalante NM and Vermillion Cliffs NM). There are a few in the US Forest Service as well (e.g. Newberry Crater National Volcanic Monument) Most NMs are administered by the National Park Service, though. The main difference between a national park and a NM w/in the NPS is how they can be designated: the President can designate a NM, but only Congress can create a national park. I think, in general, they are run in the same way, but there are enough units in the NPS that I'm sure exceptions can be found!

Haven't been to too many National Parks, just Shenandaoh, Great Smoky Mts and Acadia but several of the smaller units. I'll see if I have pics of Cape Hatteras National Seashore tonight. I'll have to pull out my Passport to the Parks and see which ones I have stamped. Nearly made it to the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado years ago.
BTW - love the photos of North Cascades.

I've been to many of the National Parks in my lifetime.
I kind of have mixed feelings about the whole system. Hard to explain.

A few more from me as well. Some of these are older and looking back through them...wow, my skill with a camera has improved over the years, not to mention that I've upgraded cameras several times. Rock Creek ParkI forgot about Rock Creek Park yesterday. These are Bloodroot blossoms from several years ago. Snow in Rock Creek Park during the Snowpocalypse event in December 2009. Assateauge IslandOne of the Assateague ponies. National Park of American SamoaVatia Bay on the north side of the island of Tutuila Redwoods National ParkThis was taken with my first digital camera in 2004 and I didn't really know how to handle shooting in the dark of the forest. Not many of my pictures came out very well from that trip. The camera didn't have any manual controls anyway. Also: the file sizes are so small! Virgin Islands National ParkAcadia National ParkCrater Lake National ParkAnother one from the early 2000s with my first digital camera. Grand Canyon National ParkCamping at Cardenas Creek in the eastern Grand Canyon. rpcv, I'm really enjoying your posts, especially so while looking at some of the older photos, as well as different takes on the locations that are familiar to me. What a grand Country we live in!

vdeal, John Day Fossil Beds is amazing. Definitely worth the trek to get there. There are three units in the park and they are all completely different. I've only visited the Sheep Rock unit (and we didn't really have time to hike) and the Painted Hills unit.
GaliWalker, I really enjoy seeing your photos, too. You are right: it is neat to see places I've been to different perspective. The photos you've posted from places I haven't been to often make me add those places to my list (if they weren't there already). Thanks for posting this thread. It was fun to dig through my photos and look at pictures from past trips. My husband and I looked so young in some of the pictures!
I have even older photos of some other parks (and a few more of National Park of American Samoa), but they will involve getting out the scanner. It won't happen in the next few days, but I may get inspired at some point.

I'm enjoying this thread. I don't have many photos to offer but it's great that this isn't just the same old places all over again (National Park of American Samoa??)
