Hi! My name is Kate. I'm 24.I live in North Eastern, Maryland. I have been hiking for some time but just have started getting ready to try backpacking. My goal is to thru hike the Appalachian Trail in 2016 or 2017. During 2015 I wanted to spend some weekends and even some longer trips backpacking. I am looking for a trail partner or two, preferably female, who are interested in meeting and hiking together, with the possibility of hiking the AT next year. I know I'm basically a beginner, having only hiked day trips in relatively well traveled state parks, but I am eager to expand my hiking knowledge and learn through experience about backpacking. In the future I would love to backpack all four seasons. I'm easy going and a sponge ready to soak up knowledge so all responses and advice are welcomed. Thanks.

Hi Kat
I'm an outing organizer for the Mid-Atlantic Backpackers. We run our club off of Meetup.com, please join. We have over 1000 members(all experience levels) and post a pretty active schedule in spring, summer, fall. There's a couple cabin trips posted currently.
Kudos on your planned AT thru hike! Is that ample time to gain enough experience?

Is that the same meet-up group that took 30 people and a chain saw to Roaring Plains last fall?

Is that the same meet-up group that took 30 people and a chain saw to Roaring Plains last fall? Any more info you can provide on this? Where did they go, was it on wilderness land? I haven't been up there since July. Did you just hear about this thru the grapevine or witness it?

We were there, following in their footsteps. But this is a whole different conversation, this should be about answering Kate's questions. We can start a new one about the pros and cons of meet-ups. Kate, have you checked Mike's hike schedule? You could not hope to find a better group to learn from. His outings are well planned out and the people that go are very knowledgeable. The groups are usually split 50/50 men and women, have a variety of experiences and the pace varies as well, so you wouldn't be held back or feel like you are moving too slow. I highly recommend signing on to as many as you can make-but do it soon, they fill up quick!

christopherrobing,
Please start a new thread on the Roaring Plains chain saw issue. I want to know more about it.
