It's so dead over there (in the Mid-Atlantic regional forum) that the only post in the last couple of weeks was a spammer resurrecting a drunk ferst thread from 9 years ago...

Honestly, it's a shame. But I like this place, it's close knit and will do just fine for my needs.

Thanks. I consider that a compliment. I enjoy giving to the hiking community.

Yep, did bounce back over there a week or so ago and saw the spammer posts. Pathetic really. Even the posters on other sections there are lamenting what it has become but they think it will improve - which I just don't see happening.

Might get more traffic if there was a banner on the midatlantichikes.com main page saying that there was a forum here now. I don't think the little button really catches the eye of people all that much. Might get picked up by the search engine crawlers easier too. If you do a search for backpacking forums, this place seems to be invisible to Google. Keywords mean a lot to search engines. Just a thought.

I honestly don't mind how hidden the forum is. It keeps it more close knit like you said. There seemed to be a cliquey-ness over on the old forums that I don't miss.

Eh, I never much posted outside of the mid-atlantic forum over there anyway. But, you can even see this place sort of divided between people that hike PA. and people that hike W.Va. The two don't seem to mix all that much.

That's what made it possible for me to seemingly range so far afield.

The two don't seem to mix all that much. I need to make it to PA more. I live just outside DC, so it's three hours to the Mon or three hours to southcentral PA...I guess I've just been more focused on "finishing" the Mon first.
I think divisions between who hikes where is all well and good. When I said cliqueyness, I was referring to a distinct regime of folks, who I have not seen over here, who only used the MidA boards as their own evite party site.

I don't think one ever "finishes" the Mon!

The drunk=ferst clique (fwiw, I did hike with them a couple of times), except for ones who also did a lot of Western trips, seems to have mostly migrated over to Facebook before the old forum collapse. Fine folks, I'd be willing to welcome them here. Honestly I think PA is a little under-represented without them.
Speaking of which, although I probably can't make it to many I think we need some outings. Did I miss MRHyker's 2015 schedule? There's one fellow I haven't actually managed to hike with yet.

I live in southwest wv so I'm at a minimum 3+ hours from any good trails.

wreckit,
SW WV might be closer than that to Mt. Rogers, VA.

There south of me. Lol. I'm in cabell co. I'm 10 min from Ky and Oh. I like MNF don't mind the drive. I travel a lot for work an go to Pa some. Around beaver valley. Was on the BP mag forums and then kids came along. Now it's time to get back on trails. The other forum was dead. Got too looking around and found this one. Like it here a lot better.

I'm a bit tardy with my schedule this year. In the process of tweaking it as I write this. Need to see my doctor before I publish it.

I'm sure they're nice people and probably a lot of fun. I went to the campout that Eggs hosted three years ago, but not a lot of that crowd was there.
I'd be down for another forum campout, or meetup. Organizing something like that can be dicey though. I suppose we should think of what is more or less equidistant for all of us. A PATC cabin is always a good option.
