www.flickr.com/photos/49239558@N04/sets/72157646919674964/ This past weekend I hiked on the Escarpment Trail in the Catskills. The weather was good and the views were excellent. There was some snow and ice on Blackhead Mtn. The trail then descended and followed the rolling ridge, or escarpment, on the eastern edge of the Catskills. There were many views from cliffs and deep forests of spruce. The views over the Hudson Valley were spectacular. I passed the remains of a small plane that crashed on the mountain. The trail goes behind the North South Lake campground and the old site of the Catskill Mountain House, one of the regions famed resorts. More views of Kaaterskill Clove followed. Famous Kaaterskill Falls is near the southern trailhead, it is not to be missed, one of the highest waterfalls in the east. The trail can be dry and camping is somewhat limited, but it is a great trail to hike.
