Folks,
The board has gotten pretty quite. Is anyone out in the MidAtlantic area, specifically WV and the VA border area? Since Mike quit hiking and posting the posts have diminshed. I try to keep things going and Gali and jmitch still post. I checked the Mid Atlantic section of the Backpacker.com forums and it's about the same. Where are people going for current trail info these days?
BTW, I hiked a lot this early winter and spring. Summer usually sees me doing other things and I've been bike riding and got the canoe out on the Upper Blackwater this year for a fine paddle. Come late Sept though I'll be back in the mountains and have several interesting trips planned.
So, any takers on this thread?

I still check in every once in a while.
Old age has caught up with me so I don't hike much. Spend most of my time fishing Smoke Hole now days.
Drove through the Sods a while back. Went up FR79 to the top of North Fork mtn. The road up is probably the best I've ever seen it since they finished the pipeline work. And the pipeline is all planted in wildflowers. Lots of Black Eyed Susans.
Might hike in and fish Cranberry at the fall stocking. Might be able to handle FR road walking and a lighter pack with the shelters there.

I check in here a few times a week. I'm fairly new although I've read the site for many years. I mostly hike around the Allegheny National Forest although I plan on hiking the Loyalsock Trail in September and Jeff's proposed PA Wilds Trail in October. I still like to use this site for distances between points on trails I may want to hike as well as to see what folks are doing for excitement in 2019. 😀
I'll also add that for PA, the PA Wilds subreddit gets a fair amount of action, at least in spurts.

Arf,
Thanks for the reply. Post some reports from Smokehole and your travels - they are helpful. I see that jnk checks the site from time to time but hasn't posted in quite a while.
anfhiker, thanks for posting. I still see some stuff from PA but was wondering where the WV/VA folks are talking these days. Backpacker.com forums are dead and the Roaring Plains yahoo group is basically also. Basically all of the old communication forums are gone or very quiet.
It seems strange in this age of instant communication available almost anywhere that no one is talking.

Well, the lack of response to this thread is disappointing. I did check Reddit but didn't see much. Just a reincarnation of the old Usenet newsgroups it seems which weren't that useful either.

Since there doesn't seem to be much interest here these days I've confined most of my more recent postings to the 'Backpackers Basecamp' forum. I haven't done that much hiking during the summer months due to various reasons, although I do want to ramp things up for the remainder of the year.
Anyway, just for you vdeal : GaliWalker on Old Rag (Aug 10, 2019)

Thanks Gali. I know you still post over at BP Basecamp but the MA section there is weak compared to the old days. We need a way to get some of the old folks posting again. Of course summer isn't prime hiking/backpacking season but it's just around the corner.

I'm also still here; just not posting much. I got backlogged with TRs some years ago, and then goings on with various photo hosting sites have led to me not even having uploaded any photos recently. I really should see what I can do on that front. Been to some nice places also. SGL 322 near Huntingdon was rather impressive; so is the overlook above Mapleton opposite the 1000 steps. I finally made it to Ohiopyle (nice but rather busy), White Oak Canyon, Soldiers Delight (a suburban Dolly Sods?), the VA side of Great Falls, and more both well known and not well known.

hoosier,
Nice photo. I don't do a lot of PA other than the SW corner since I'm in WV and we have great stuff down here but glad you're out.
