Hi all,
I've lurked around here for a long time and followed along with the adventures. I'm a big fan of hiking and backpacking, and after some personal stuff sort of sapped my backpacking spirit (still been day hiking plenty) I'm ready to plan some fall hikes.
I'm looking at using my work schedule to my advantage and hiking the week of Columbus Day, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a good spot to go. My favorite type of hike is the 25-30 mile overnight where I can start mid-morning on day 1, camp overnight and finish sometime in the afternoon of day 2. I've done this with a lot of different trails (Quehanna SE, West Rim, Old Loggers Path, etc) and while I'm not averse to doing a retread I'd also not mind seeing something new. I'd also prefer a loop but if I can get a shuttle without giving up an arm and leg, I'd be amenable to that.
So the question is, roughly within the bounds of Rt 80 (in the S)-Rt 15 (in the E) and where I am (the ANF, as my name would indicate), what would be some recommendations? Is there anything around the south of the Susquehannock Trail? Is the Mid State Trail able to be split up conveniently that way?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Check out the Allegheny Front Trail, either loop of the chuck keiper trail, or the mid state/tiadaghton trail loop.

Mid State Trail between Blackwell and Little Pine State Park is a classic backpack that Pine Creek Outfitters could shuttle you on.
For another MST hike they might shuttle you from Blackwell to Arnot Rd - east of 287 is easy terrain with waterfalls (don't forget to take the spur to Nickel Run falls which is higher than Sand Run) (also if you continue down the side trail there is a streamside campsite/swimming hole). Unfortunately there is currently a 6 mile roadwalk in the middle of this, but in the middle of that there is a classic redneck bar (Duncan Tavern, 2 short blocks around a curve from the old stone church in Antrim), and also a wide sweeping roadside viewpoint to awesome foliage likely then. 287 to Blackwell has easy stretches, also swimming holes (on a stream, Stony Fork, you have to wade), but also a rock city (with choices about going over, through, or partially around), old mining ruins, and if you hike southbound a great viewpoint on Fork Hill (sort of a cross between WRT and McAfee Knob, looking down on Gillespie Point) to finish on. (Southbound, because northbound going in is not marked currently). One of the most varied PA Wilds hikes.
