Just opening this thread trying to get some trail reports on the state of leaf out and/or blooming (especially rhododendron/laurel) on the Mon NF. Not much board traffic anymore and I'm having a hard time deciding where to go based on leaf out since things are so far behind this year. Any reports welcome.

I did a tour of Otter Creek yesterday. No rhododendrons - probably missed them? - but the mountain laurel were beginning to poke out. I'd estimate about a couple of weeks for them to bloom. There were quite a few other flowers out but I don't know what they're called...

Thanks Gali. I was at Dolly Sods north last Thursday and the leaves are not out at 100% yet. At the top they're probably 75-85%. Laurel and rhodos are not blooming yet - just tiny immature flowers. Should be out good by the end of June. Not much in the way of wildflowers up there except lots of bluets, some violets and one other I have to look up. Very soggy from the rains.

Well, the board has once again been very quiet so time to resurrect this thread. I know it's early this season but with low snowfall this year and an early warming we may start to see some greenery. I know that in areas like Morgantown I've seen crocuses blooming along with forsythia and Japanese cherries. Anyone else seeing anything yet?

Even down by warm Baltimore there's still barely any green yet. Skunk cabbage is about all I've seen on my hikes, but redbud, cherry, and willow are all starting to do their thing.

It's been quite a cold April here in WV. During the past week we've had 2.3" of snow on Chestnut Ridge and Canaan had even more. Even in the Morgantown area trees have barely started to green up. I'm hoping we turn the corner into spring for good next week. Our last snow here usually averages right around April 15th.

As of 4/21 things here in Warrenton VA area are greening up nicely. It's been such a beautiful spring, its hard to believe there's a plague going around! Have not been up to the hills as yet, Shenandoah NP is shut down completely as of this moment, but hoping to get to WV if I can in the near future. I don't know how Va or WV would react to a knucklehead in a jeep heading up to the mountains for some solo BP R&R at this point. But if I can, I certainly will!

Glad to hear it Bruce. Mon NF is open for business but the official campgrounds are closed. Makes no difference to me. Haven't been out in a while. Soon I hope.

Things are slow to leaf out this year over here in the Potomac highlands.
The pink/purple dogwoods are going full blast. Not much laurel over on this side of the range so I can't say about that.
ETA, they didn't open the gates to the Sods yet. Guess you can still walk in though.

Redbuds have been amazing below the east side of the Blue Ridge, and the dogwoods are coming along nicely. Most trees are in the new spring greenery stage.
Was up high in Highland Cty, VA and Randolph/Pendleton Ctys, WV 2 weeks ago and it was still pretty winter-like, though some tiny flowers of various sorts were showing. 2 weeks ago today we hiked in a snowstorm (4" eventually) just south of Spruce Mtn, and I know Canaan Valley had snow early last week...
