Was out at Table Rock this past weekend and came across a makeshift memorial. Someone hauled a paving stone out and used stickers to place a name and dates on the paver and then inscribed some pics and quotes on it. It was attached to a piece of rebar and this was wedged in a crevice on the outcrop. This was all fairly new in the last couple months. My guess is that ashes were spread at the rock. I'm assuming the FS will remove it once they find it. Seems like it would last a lot longer if they had placed it in a less trafficked area but then I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of placing a memorial if no one sees it. Anyone else come across things like this? There are the crosses on the forest road at Dolly Sods that have been left up there. and the memorials at the plane crash sites. I'm sure there are crosses all over the MNF that were placed without permission. Whats the official stance on this? Why are some left and others removed?

There's a few up on Flagpole Knob in the GW too. Not something I give much thought to.
