Hi all, I am a long time lurker, and finally decided to make an account. I have been thinking about making a trip in the next year or two, so I am trying to narrow down some places. I saw on a thread a while back about going to western China, and that has really stuck in my head since it would be more in my budget. I saw Salewa is doing a lot of contests where they are taking 200 people on trips: newsdailynow.com/2015/11/11/salewa/ Those places have really peaked my interest as well. I have entered, and hopefully have a shot at it. Does anyone have experience at any of the places that they're offering? I look forward to hearing your responses, and would love any first hand feedback. thanks!

I don't have experience of any of the places on the link, but if I was to answer the question in the thread title, "Where would you go if you could go any place in the world?"... At one point I really wanted to get to Everest basecamp - my recommendation for you (if you weren't limited to the places in your link) - but decided to go to K2's basecamp instead (2yrs ago): Hiking to K2's basecampMy next dream is to visit ~17,000ft high Snow Lake, also in the Karakorams, which is a glacial bowl ringed by the most awesome of peaks: (Not my photo)I'm tentatively toying with the above trip for next summer...

I guess I really only considered the places in the link if i won, since they are expensive destinations. I really REALLy like the idea of the Karakorams. Everest is more of a long term goal for me at this point. Maybe in about 10 years or so.

FYI: Getting to any of the above two places I mention is equally hard, or possibly harder, than getting to Everest basecamp.

My ambition is much less than y'uns. I would like sometime to go to the Vysoke Tatry in Slovakia and areas to the east in the Carpathians in Poland and Slovakia along the Dunajec and Poprad rivers. It seems to be not an extremely popular destination for North Americans even this long after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Any mid-Atlantic folks have experience with this area?
