I was very tempted in Otter Creek last summer (2014). August hike I think, Ran into a LOT of downed trees, really big ones, on Possession camp trail. The storm that caused it was recent, because all the down trees had still-green leaves on them. Scary in some parts, I could see where big trees were just twisted off about 20 feet up and just hurled down the mountain. Just one after another. I had a saw in the car, almost went back to get it. But I know better.
I hiked up to the old shelter location for the night, and ran into a couple that were coming from the other direction. They told me Mylius trail was impassable. The girl was wearing shorts, and was pretty cut up from climbing through the downed brush. They weren't happy about my trail report as they were headed down the way I came up.
Aside from that, I really appreciate all the hard work the NFS and other agencies put into trails in Wilderness areas. But it is kinda fun to follow an undeveloped trace through the woods.Hidden Passage and the Rim trail in Roaring Plains are still kind of like that, but vastly different from the first time I went up there. Kinda reminds me of Dolly Sods in the 70's before it was over run.
