I know that many of us came to this forum because of the crap software that Backpacker magazine used to replace the old forums. And I am in no way implying anything negative about this forum which I believe is essential to our region.
I do, however, want to make sure that people know that Steve, the moderator for the Backpacker forums, created a new site for all of us to enjoy. It's URL is: bpbasecamp.freeforums.net/
Many of the old forum members have returned and the community is alive and growing.

Went over there and got in okay and it looks much better than the previous cluster but I'm really more committed to this board. The members here are top notch and I trust the info. Nothing wrong with the new forum over there but I can only peruse so many so it will be a bit of a lurk mode there for me I think.

Steve came to be shortly after we started this board looking for suggestions. The exodus out of BP.com must have been huge. I recommended Freeforums and helped him with a few things. He asked that I come and join the new boards but I put too much into this one. I can't help but consider it competition though Steve means well.

MR,
I wouldn’t worry too much, you have a pretty loyal group here who appreciates what you’ve done.

Yup, I think this is the appropriate spot for Mid-Atlantic stuff. I think your main site should be able to attract new, dedicated-to-the-mid-Atlantic members to these forums (and vice-versa, maybe), so growth should also be ok.

I agree with vdeal and galiwalker. This site is perfect for us in the mid-Atlantic. I just wanted to share the news that the forum where most of us "met each other" was finally back.

I like this site the best. The information everyone provides is top notch and honest. Since I live in the midatlantic and do 99% of my hiking here, this site would be hard to beat.

I signed up for their new site but I can't see the Mid-Atlantic regional forum on it, it asks me for another password??

I'm not going anywhere either. As others have said, the info on the mid-atlantic region (especially the MNF) here can't be matched.
I'm not saying I won't go over there and do some winter reading, but I never really ventured out of the mid-atlantic forum on the old BP board anyway.
