My husband and I visited Niagara Falls last weekend. We had a wedding in Cleveland and decided to make a long weekend of it. Calling it a hike would be a stretch, but we did do quite a bit of walking while we were there. We only visited the U.S. side because we realized too late that my husband's passport has expired and we didn't want to pay for expedited processing.
My husband had never been to Niagara Falls before. I went once, in January 1994 when I was a freshman in college. Two friends and I drove from Missouri to Cleveland to Buffalo for a weekend. One of the friends wanted to visit a college in suburban Cleveland. Once we were on our way, the second friend suggested that we go to the AFC Championship game in Buffalo which was happening that weekend. Since gas was cheap and Buffalo was only three hours further, we figured, "why not?" When we got to Buffalo, we went straight to Niagara Falls, arriving at something like 11 p.m. I had never, up to that point, seen so much snow anywhere. The place was completely fogged in and silent except for the sound of the water. We went to the football game the next day, watched our team lose and went back out to the falls before driving back to Missouri in time for Monday morning classes.
That trip really started my love of travel and adventure, so I was definitely looking forward to going back to visit the falls. The weather was nice and it wasn't especially crowded. I expect in the summer that isn't the case. We had a great time. We also visited Fort Niagara, twelve miles to the north and the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Buffalo. Both of those are worth a visit if you are in the area. I didn't really get any photos at the FLW house since they don't allow much photography there.
