Question for Jmitch
Is there a waterfall on the Mehoopany Creek just downstream from the junction with Red Brook. And if so is there somewhere nearby to park along Windy Valley Road to access the falls. I believe you may have mentioned this back on the back packer forums, but all those post are gone.
I'm planning on doing some exploring in SGL 57 early this Sunday (11/16/14) morning. Going to check out two of the unnamed drainages on the north side of the Mehoopany. And also spotted some capstone cliffs I want to check out that I seen looking at aerial views on ACME mapper
Thanks
Bill

Sorry for being so late, and you've probably already been there. I think you mean Stony Brook. Red Brook flows into Stony Brook, which flows into Mehoopany. No falls there, but a nice bedrock slide and rapids into a huge swimming hole. Known as "The Rocks". Very scenic. There is some parking along the road and short trails to the rapids. Popular spot in summer. Fun to kayak in high water. Red Brook itself is worth hiking. Beautiful gorge, two waterfalls, historical features, and a spruce swamp on top, plus an old mine shaft you can still walk into, although it is wet. Nearby is a unique rock shelter with some old, rusted pots and pans. www.flickr.com/photos/49239558@N04/sets/72157644155796289/
